The Montavilla Neighborhood Association is about to host it’s first ever Movie Night in the Park event. Festivities kick off at 4pm  Saturday, August 22nd with City Blessing church’s kids carnival.  There will also be vendors hosting children’s activities (I will be there applying temporary tattoos), food vendors and loads of people and fun.  Get there early to get a good seat for the movie and if there is time to spare, hop across the street for the Manor of Art event going on at Milepost 5.  We hope to see you there!

There are a couple of things going on this weekend in Portland and the surrounding areas that look interesting.  We all know there is awesome weather coming for us in the next couple of days because that’s all people can talk about! So that means we need to get outside and get some vitamin D into our systems.

Friday

  • Everyone Who Looks Like You at Milepost 5 – 8pm, $15 Hand2mouth theater production.(also playing Sat and Sun).
  • Youth Group at the East End - 9pm, $8, good band from Australia. 203 SE Grand

Saturday

  • Alberta Art Hop – Alberta will be closed, 11am – 6pm, there is a parade at 3pm, local artists, dancers, crafts, food.  Perfect weather to be outdoors this weekend!
  • Mt. Tabor Art Walk – 11am-5pm, here is the map.
  • 10th Annual UFO Festival at Hotel Oregon McMenamins -  all things UFO plus the keynote has had encounters, should be interesting. 310  NE Evans St. McMinnville, OR
  • Twilight Rummage Sale at the Eagles Lodge – 5pm – 9pm, cool, vintage things for sale, 50th & Hawthorne

Sunday

  • Frank Black and The School of Rock at Berbatis – $12, there is a show at 1pm and one at 5pm, very talented kids back Frank Black as he sings Pixie’s songs, awesome! 213 SW Ankeny

  • Hike in the Gorge – not really an event but that’s what I’m doing, no rain today, go for a hike, outline of hikes and their difficulty levels here.

  • Le Bistro Bazaar at the Montage – 11am – 4pm, vintage item swap meet, sell, trade items, The Montage bar will be open and serving happy hour while this is going on. 301 SE Morrison

  • Pretty Dress Bike Ride – meet at Ladds Circle (1996 SE Ladd) at 2pm and wear a pretty dress.
  • Big Ass Garage Sale at 2615 N Emerson - pretty much is what it sounds like
  • Cinco De Mayo Celebration at the Waterfront (that’s what all those rides and tents they are setting up are for) should be some good food.

  • Lower Fremont 2nd Friday Artwalk and Sidewalk Sale: Local artists and crafters will display and sell their work outside. Lower Fremont 2nd Friday event is on NE Fremont between 12th & 14th Avenues, 4:00 pm–9:00 pm.
  • TONIGHT KATEE SAKHOFF “STARBUCK” WILL BE THERE LIVE IN PERSON “Battlestar Galactica” Final Season: Final 2 episodes of BSG.Bagdad Theater (3702 SE Hawthorne Blvd). Doors open at 9:00 pm; show at 10:00 pm. Ages 21+. It will be packed.

  • Make a Bird House: The Rebuilding Center will provide you with the tools, reclaimed house materials and all the instruction you’ll need to build your own bird house.
