The Montavilla Neighborhood Association is about to host it’s first ever Movie Night in the Park event. Festivities kick off at 4pm  Saturday, August 22nd with City Blessing church’s kids carnival.  There will also be vendors hosting children’s activities (I will be there applying temporary tattoos), food vendors and loads of people and fun.  Get there early to get a good seat for the movie and if there is time to spare, hop across the street for the Manor of Art event going on at Milepost 5.  We hope to see you there!

  • Portland’s Largest Garage Sale at the Expo Center – 7am- 6pm, 2060 N Marine Dr, lots of stuff to buy

  • 11th Annual Kitchen Revival Tour at the Architectural Heritage Center - 10am -4pm, $25 per person, See several wonderful period or historically accurate kitchens, 701 SE Grand Ave.
  • Packy’s Birthday Party at the Oregon Zoo – 10am- 4pm, $9.75 adults, lots of fun elephant activities, 4001 SW Canyon Rd
  • Paper Art Show at the Japanese Gardens – 10am – 7pm, exhibition of unique paper art, local artists will display and sell different paper art styles, $8 (special rates for students and seniors), 611 SW Kingston Ave
  • “Eat Mobile” Food Cart Festival at Disjecta – 5:30pm – 9:30pm, $5 and includes loads of samples from cart vendors, proceeds benefit Mercy Corps NW, 8371 N Interstate Ave

  • 3D Center of Art and Photography presents History of the Stereo Card - 3D Center of Art and Photography, $5 for adults, under 15 get in free, 1928 NW Lovejoy

  • Soap Box Derby Sign-Up at Beuhlaland – starts at 8am (but you can get in line at 4am, they will only take 39 entries for the August derby at Mt. Tabor)

  • Holcombe Waller and The Healers present Into the Dark Unknown: The Hope Chest - Portland Institute for Contemporary Art Imago Theater, $18, 17 SE 8th

Special Monday Event

  • Dooce is going to be at Powell’s on Burnside – at 7:30pm for a siging of her new book It Sucked and Then I Cried: How I Had a Baby, a Breakdown, and a Much Needed Margarita, get in line now, it will be packed with tons of moms and dads.

  • Kidical Mass Family Bike Ride: Meet at 5:30 pm; rides start at 6:00 pm.
