Weekend Events in Portland – March 6-8th

There are a couple of fun events going on this weekend in Portland. Hopefully this sunshine will stick around for a couple of days (I heard a rumor of snow on Sunday).

Friday 3/6/09
- Free First Friday Night at Portland Children’s Museum: Admission to the museum is free from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. 4015 SW Canyon Road
- Opening reception for artist Anna Peters at Destroy: DJ sets by resident DJ Infamous 1. Beer compliments of Widmer Brothers, starts at 7pm. 1712 E. Burnside
- Battlestar Galactica Final Season at the Bagdad Theater: final 10 episodes of “Battlestar Galactica.” 3702 SE Hawthorne Blvd Doors open at 9:00 pm; show at 10:00 pm (I’m going, yes!)
- Fujiya & Miyagi at Doug Fir (lovely electro pop): Doors at 8pm, Show at 9pm
$13 advance, $15 day of show. 830 E. Burnside
Saturday 3/7/09
- 19th Annual Buckman Art Show & Sell: Paintings, ceramics, photography, wearable art, toys, food, student art and performances, kids’ art activities and more! 320 SE 16th Avenue 10am-5pm, $2 suggested donation,Buckman Marimba Ensemble, Buckman Chorus, student dancers, live jazz, bluegrass and more!

Swingfest – Portland Lindy Exchange: Pioneer Courthouse Square live music and swing dancing. 1:00 pm–4:00 pm.
- Sip 47 Wine Tasting: March 7 and 8, 2009, thirty-five wineries and businesses along Rt. 47 in the Northern Willamette Valley will celebrate spring by offering a weekend full of tastings of brand-new wine releases, food pairings, sake tastings, live music, discounts and more! Here is the map.
- Mood Area 52 at Press Club: 8:30 pm. All ages, located at 2621 SE Clinton St
- Writers Block at Holocene: 10 recording artists: Jesse & Josh (Oh Captain, My Captain), Chris Robley (yay), Nat & Dave (Derby),Amy Seeley, Johnny Clay (The Dimes), Bryan Free, Henry, Chris & Jules(Jonah), Lael Alderman, Ehren Ebbage, Nathan Trueb (Tango Alpha Tango), Kelli Schaefer, Eric Nordby (Norman), Karizma. Whew! What a line up, bargain at only $7 admission or $5 with some canned food (I assume for the starving artists).
Sunday 3/8/09
- “Manhattan” the Woody Allen movie at Press Club: 8:00 pm. All ages, located at 2621 SE Clinton St
- ReGeneration: 50 Photographers of Tomorrow at Hoffman Gallery: innovative work from 50 up-and-coming photographers from around the world. located at 8245 SW Barnes Rd
